Horse Riding Safaris in Kenya: See Africa the Original Way
Before there were 4x4s, there were horses. Before fences, there was open grassland. A horse riding safari in Kenya takes you back to that version of Africa quiet, wild, and unhurried.
At Lavira Safaris, we run private horse riding safaris across Kenya’s top conservancies. You’ll ride with experienced local guides, track wildlife on horseback, and access areas vehicles can’t reach. No crowds. No engines. Just hoofbeats and wind.
This isn’t a tourist pony ride. It’s a real safari.
What a Horse Riding Safari Look like

Why Ride Horses on Safari in Kenya?
1.Animals act differently Zebra, giraffe and antelope see horses as just another herd animal. On a game drive, they run at 200m.On horseback, you’ll often ride to within 30m of zebra or wildebeest.Predators are less stressed too. We’ve ridden past lions resting in grass while they barely lifted a head.
2.Gowherevehiclescan’t
Horse riding safaris access luggas, riverbeds, and ridgelines closed to cars. You’ll cross plains that feel untouched because they are. This is why we run most of our horse safaris in private conservancies fewer rules, more wilderness.
3.Alllevelswelcome
You don’t need to be a jockey. We match horses to riders. First time? You’ll get a calm, steady bush pony and we’ll start at a walk. Experienced? Expect long canters across open plains with your guide. We ride in small groups of 2-6 for safety and experience.
4.Silent = immersive No engines or radios.Just birds, wind through acacia and giraffe watching from a ridge.

Horse Riding + Game Drives: The Perfect Kenya Safari
Most guests combine several days of horse riding with traditional game drives. Ride mornings, game drive afternoons. That way you get long canters and close wildlife sightings.
We also offer fly-camping safaris on horseback: multi-day mobile rides moving camp each night. You ride point-to-point across conservancies, sleep in small tented camps, and really feel the old safari style. This is our most popular luxury horse safari Kenya option.
