Lavira Safaris

A Kenyan or Tanzanian safari offers stunning landscapes with opportunities for both wildlife viewing and hiking. For a Kenyan safari, consider the iconic Masai Mara for wildlife and Mount Kenya for a challenging trek. In Tanzania, Mount Kilimanjaro provides a world-renowned climb, while the Ngorongoro Crater offers incredible views and wildlife encounters.

Kenya: Wildlife and Hiking Adventures

Masai Mara National Reserve:

Renowned for its vast plains and abundant wildlife, the Masai Mara is a must-visit for any safari enthusiast. It’s famous for the Great Migration (July-October) and offers excellent opportunities to spot the “Big Five” (lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and buffalo).

Mount Kenya:

Africa’s second-highest peak, Mount Kenya, offers diverse hiking experiences, from shorter treks to the Met Station (3,050 meters) to challenging ascents to the summit. The landscapes change dramatically, from lush forests to rocky terrains and glaciers.

Mount Longonot:

This stratovolcano near Nairobi is a popular day hike. It’s known for its impressive crater rim walk and panoramic views of the Great Rift Valley.

Hell’s Gate National Park:

This park stands out with its unique volcanic landscape, featuring rugged cliffs, gorges, and rock columns. It’s a great place for hiking and cycling, offering close encounters with wildlife like zebras and gazelles.

Tanzania: Iconic Peaks and Crater Views

Mount Kilimanjaro:

Tanzania’s most famous landmark, Mount Kilimanjaro, is a challenging yet rewarding climb. Hikers can choose from various routes, each with unique scenery, including rainforests, moorlands, and glaciers.

Ngorongoro Crater:

This volcanic caldera is a UNESCO World Heritage site teeming with wildlife. The crater floor is a microcosm of the African savanna, offering incredible wildlife viewing opportunities, including the endangered black rhino.

Serengeti National Park:

Famous for the Great Migration (which enters from the Masai Mara around October), the Serengeti offers vast open plains and diverse wildlife. It’s a fantastic place for both game drives and walking safaris.

Combining Kenya and Tanzania

For a more in-depth safari experience, consider combining trips to both Kenya and Tanzania. This allows you to witness the Great Migration in both countries and explore the diverse landscapes and wildlife of each nation.
